Historical Origins
Dragon boat races are thought to have originated between 770 and 476 BCE. During the spring and autumn period, fishermen from Wu (Jiangsu Province) and Yue (Zhejiang Province) used dragon-shaped boats to honour the river dragons. The King of Yue, Gou Jian, trained his navy using boat races, but it was during the Han Dynasty that dragon boat racing became a sport. The boats were long and narrow, with prows painted to resemble dragon heads. Gongs and drums provided rhythm for the rowers, while spectators cheered the brightly decorated boats adorned with lanterns as they raced one another.
I wonder if you have ever seen a dragon boat race in China?

Zongzi has a long history. It was originally used as a tribute to ancestors and gods. After being introduced to the north, millet (produced in the north) was used to make zongzi, known as "cornstarch".
